- We are so luckey to be in a profession where we always get a new beginning. ....and every year we get better, stronger, faster! (a small allusion to the lovely Summer Olympics..)
- There is so much great stuff coming our way this year!
- I get to work with the amazing EIPS teachers again.
Despite my excitement, I do realize that we are at the beginning of the school year and so time is commodity. So, without further ado, here are some of my Beginning-of-The-Year musings:
- As I start the school year, I like to revisit Richard Allington's work on reading. He lists the elements for great literacy teaching. Simple. Proven. Cheap.

3. The Read Aloud. This is kind of an extension of the Allington quote....but I don't think the reading aloud of a novel, story, newspaper article to a class can be emphasized enough as an awesome First Day of School activity... and and an activity for every day after that!
